Do I look that old?

As I had to go into town to go to the building society today I decided to have another go at buying new clothes.

I shouldn't have bothered.

The man in the building society kept asking me, 'Are you in receipt of a state pension?' I mean, do I look that old?

So I wasn't in the right frame of mind to try on clothes. I went to Wallis and Red Herring when I obviously should have been in the OAP department in M&S. "A nice beige twinset and brown nylon slacks don't show the dirt and they come up a treat in the wash."

In the end I bought two tops including one t-shirt that was in the sale in Republic and which I didn't try on until I got home. Which was a mistake. I forgot that when trendy shop labels say size 12 they mean small size 12 not M&S size 12.

I am beginning to sympathise with Victor Meldrew.

Ignorant salespeople! Hmmmph! Ah well, years ago a friend went shopping with her new baby and she was asked how she enjoyed being a grandmother! She was practically in tears when I ran into her (not literally) outside the store right afterwards. But then, I was mistaken for my daughter's older sister a couple of times. hee hee

Mercy! That salesperson needs some tips in salesmanship--no doubt if he/she gets commission on sales it is nil.

Take from a 70+ yr old, I don't like to be ask my age. Maybe if I ever see 90!

I had a fit one day when I was in the grocery store and a child who was waiting on me (he looked 12) asked if I was a senior citizen. I said, "NO," in reproving tones and then, hopefully, asked, "What age IS a senior citizen in this store?" thinking maybe it was 55 and above? "65," the child answered. I reiterated my NO with even more force!

I get the opposite when I show bus drivers my bus pass. They always give me a very curious look as if they can't believe I'm that old and the bus pass might be a fake. All my family look about 10 years younger than they are.

I hate buying clothes! I've been shopping for a dress for my daughter's wedding with no luck;apparently, designers think when a woman reaches my size, we will be satisfied with shapeless dresses in black or gray.

I remember a young salesgirl who looked totally surprised when I asked about the senior discount one day--she couldn't believe I was over 55. I almost hugged her:)

I think I'm only mistaken for an older sister when people are trying to be nice, leslie!

I'm not worried about my age, usually, nitwit.

The cheek of it, mauigirl!

Oh, just rub it in, nick!

It's true what you say about clothes for older women, rose. I don't want to look staid but I don't want to to look folish either.
