Some pretty candle lights that came out surprisingly well in my photo I thought.
And our posh present? This rather fine collection of knives. There's another layer underneath too consisting of a set of steak knives and forks and a huge butcher's knife. It makes the pate and biscuits I gave the donor appear a trifling pathetic!

Goodness, is that a combination lock on the knife box - so this lethal collection doesn't end up in the wrong hands?
It is, nick! We could probably be arrested for being in possession of such lethal weapons!
Knives!
I was going to guess a portable Roulette set. We used to have one. Our au pair gave us a case with all manner of board games, roulette and everything. Man, it was one of the best presents I ever had. The fact that I recall it so clearly when I was 9 at the time probably says everything.
I hope you, George and family are having a very merry one, Liz.
I had Satay Chicken (not turkey) Curry with Indian Fried Rice (the yellow type, can't recall what it's called) + a litre bottle of Caramel Baileys... yumyumyumyumyummmmmmm!!
All the best for a Fantabulous 2011!!

The best! Family, food and goof knives! lol! Merry Christmas!
Gee Liz! Next to learning you have another grandchild on the way, that knife set is fabulous! I'd love to have something like that.
Never receive knives as a gift, says the superstition. Pay the donor one symbolic penny to avoid being GIVEN the knife ;-)
BTW, just to get you drooling, our lunch was :-
1)Roast chestnut & cognac soup
2)Smoked wild Alaskan salmon
3)Apple slices baked & grilled in Roquefort cheese
4) Coffee & Dresdner Stollen (that's a dry fruit and marzipan cake) in Baileys ;-)
