A ring on her finger

I can't believe William gave Kate his mother's engagement ring. There's so much history to it not to mention bad memories. And a girl wants her own ring, doesn't she?

Not to mention that it wasn't even attractive when Diana had it.

I'd like to think chosen rather than beholden and it might be far more romantic than we'll ever know.

I love that ring! And I think because it was his mother's ring, he wanted Kate to know just how much he loves her. Yes, Diana's death was tragic, but her name will go on into perpetuity. Kate may as well get used to being part of history now, too.

I was surprised the ring was not in a some kind of museum dedicated to Diana.

But I am not into protocol so will watch this as the always interested bystander.

maybe she was asked beforehand about the ring.

My wedding ring was my grandmothers I I find that kind of special.

On one of her significant anniversaries my Mum had her wedding ring and her mothers wedding ring melted down together to form a new ring.

I guess it is a kind of sentimental family thing...

My wife said it was the same one... I thought she was wrong. Hmm... given how badly that marriage ended up I'm not sure that was an appropriate omen to start this one on

Yes but it was just an engagement ring though, wasn't it Liz? The real thing will cost the taxpayer oodles more.

Nor can I, I thought that was a bit weird.

Liz, can I ask you a favour?

Here:

people are going nuts. I don't know if you have anything you can say that might help. If you do please do. I wouldn't ask, except this is doing my brainbox in badly.

I am trying to write about how you can get help for an addiction and things people have done for themselves to come off it. But I'm terrified of even mentioning something telling someone not to do it and then out of sheer desperation they do the opposite.

It's got really really bad out there. The post I'm talking about has about 65 or 70 comments already. If you look from the top it would be about 5 down, with the picture of the cracked lakebed.

I'm asking 1 or 2 other people as well who might just be able to say something reassuring/useful/whatever

I don't want to put pressure on you I am feeling a bit done in about this all. Not for my sake, I have medication. Most of these people don't!

I'm thinking of you because I know what part of your job entails. But then... what can you say???

Sorry to go on

xx

My thoughts exactly about the ring. It doesn't seem like the best start to have an engagement ring which is associated with such a tragic relationship.
Good luck to them though....

Hi Liz my blog's gone normal this weekend. Didn't mean to put you on the spot with the last comment. It was late at night, I had endless comments from people who were desperate, 90 so far. My bog has turned into a forum for the disposessed! But it's... FURRY FRIDAY (on Saturday, of course)

:-)

I think if Kate feels comfortable with it, then it's a lovely gesture. I'm just disappointed one of the world's most eligible bachelors has been taken out of the running before my youngest daughter had a chance:)

I watched a "Dateline" interview with Prince Charles last night. I'm not usually too interested in all the gossip about the royals, but this was really fascinating. I didn't realize how passionate about the environment he is and found myself empathizing with him on so many points.

I just hope it brings her more luck than it did Diana.
