According to Delicious Organics:
Purple Potatoes also called Blue Potatoes or Delta Blues truly are naturally purple! This is from the same powerful antioxidant that give blueberries their brilliant color. Purple Peruvian Potatoes were some of the first potatoes harvested. They were saved for Inca kings. Used in Mexican cooking, purple potatoes are gaining popularity in the U.S. They have a naturally creamy flavor and texture and hold their shape well for salads.

Well you live and learn! Bet you couldn't buy them here.
What do they taste like? Are they actually the same as ordinary potatoes?
I love potatoes, but I've never seen any purple ones!
They taste like ordinary ones, yes. Very yummy once you get over the 'I'm eating purple potato' bit.
I saw a UK website that called Shetland Black purple potatoes but I googled those and they are yellow with a purple ring, not like these - although I don't know what's happened to the photo.
I have never seen any of those before!
Oh! So is that the purple mash from the photo below?
I would love to try the purple potatoes. Thanks for the beautiful photos.

Neither had I, cherrypie, but Daughter knew about them.
Yes, leslie.
Richie, I'm sure they must be available in the US.
Are you saying I can't tell my beet from my pot, mutley?
It's a possibility, robyn!
Good news, amanda.
I think you should grow some purple ones and write about them on your allotment blog, anna.
I don't think I could ever get past the 'I'm eating purple potato' bit! I would definitely need a bucket close by, before I could try them.
Love the photos! You and your daughter look like sisters.
Just not sure with that colour...
