I'm sure I'm not supposed to love it so much.
It's big and heavy and made for family eating. It's not as spotty as it looks in the photo - I think that's from the flash - but it doesn't shine as much as I would like it to so I'm going to buy some proper elbow-grease polish and treat it specially. That's how much I love it!

It is a lovely table! I think it's all the things you associate with it that give you a warm glow of pride. For me, it's the cooker. I Heart My Cooker. I stand and gaze at it lovingly from the door.
That's a truly lovely able Liz. I had an oval, butterfly-leaf dark oak Ercol table - fully extended it would seat 8 - 10. Even closed we had no room for it, so it had to go. The small new tile-topped table is neat and easy-care, but .....
Your dining-Table and chairs are lovely and, as others have said, the association with happy family meals is so precious. For me though I really love the look of the parquet flooring as well.

I got (bought) mine off Mum in law when she downsized. MIL always grumbles every time she visits, that fact that it is her table...
*sighs* I thought I was doing a favour!
anna, dragonstar and wendy, you're right; it is the happy family meal times that make the table so precious. But it is the big expanse of shiny wood that is beautiful too!
Mothers-in-law, eh, cherrypie? Oops, I shouldn't say that now that i'm one!
Lovely table.
You can't beat beeswax for feeding wood once a year. Wipe over with a damp cloth every now and then.
