He has infected dermatitis, a common ailment apparently for retrievers because of their thick coat. You can't see very well in this picture but he has a shaved patch on his back as well as two smaller ones under his chin and on his chest. It took all the strength of Younger Son and me to hold him down while he was being shaved. A treat held just above his nose helped.
Poor George.

Since I have a beard I can understand him.
Well - he is a young shaver isn't he!
Were the shaved spots in the shape of a kitty?
;P
Poor George - so sorry to read this. Hope he recovers well.
WOW! I just enlarged that photo - what a gorgeous animal he is!
Still, I'm sorry about his dermatitis, it must irritate him a lot.
Had you considered shaving him all over everyday? Or how about waxing him? Just a thought... not a good one ..just a thought.,
hope he recovers soon
ps I wouldn't use those xercise poles either!
Awww! poor thing/
Sorry to hear about George, I hope he recovers soon.
Poor George - you'd better check all his escape holes in the fence as he is probably plotting how to evade another visit to the Vet!
Hope you have a lovely trip away on the 6th.

Poor George indeed, but I think he'll survive. I had a golden cocker spaniel years ago that had this problem all her life. It was a right pain.
Poor George - hope he got over the trauma of the procedure quickly and that he soon heals.
Bless him.

Poor George, indeed. Mitzi will sympathise with him...she hates going to the vet with a passion. Hopefully they can get his dermatitis under control. It can't be pleasant to be itchy all the time.
runee, I hope you don't suffer in the same way though!
He is indeed, lindsay.
That would be too cruel, mdm.
lola, I hope you don't get it with all your wool!
dragonstar, he is.
mutley, I've mentioned your thought to George; he sends you a snarl. At least he would if he knew how to.
ackworth, cherrypie, starnitesky, thank you.
wendy, I've just discovered a new hole in the fence!
jmb, I am concerned that it could be an ongoing problem.
gary, thank you.
puss, I hope they can control it. George says hello to Mitzi!
