Ee-aa ee-aa ee-aa ee-aa

Just as I was about to leave work at lunchtime my boss phoned.
'Did Neil forget you were there and put the alarm on?'
'Pardon?'
'I've just got home and there's a message on my phone saying the alarm went off.'
(Explanation: When the alarm at Linden is activated, it automatically rings my boss at home to tell her. Neil had been using the downstairs hall during the morning.)
'No, it didn't.'
'It says it did. At about 11 am.'
'No, it didn't. I was here. I'd have noticed.'

The alarm box is outside the office window. I couldn't not have heard it now could I?

Half an hour later I phoned my boss.
'It's coming back to me: I did hear an alarm. I even looked out of the window (yes, the window next to the alarm box). There were some people standing beside a car; I thought it was their alarm.'

I guess you were so absorbed in your work, it didn't really register. So you got out okay, did you? hah!

There are so many different types of alarms going off in so many different places anymore, I don't pay much attention to any of them outside of the ones my grandson Dylan likes. I think most people kind of cast a deaf ear out to them, don't you?

That's the sort of thing I'd do. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's rather ditzy.

Ahhh, never mind, Liz. I think we ditzes make up the majority of the female population anyway.

I try not to take any notice of external noises these days. Obviously you manage more than "try". Three cheers for Liz, who makes us all feel we have company in out dottyness!
