Think more, eat less

Last night on PM on Radio 4, there was an item about some research done by scientists.

They took two groups of people. One group they asked to write a description of a favourite meal; the other they asked to describe a journey. Then they gave them all piles of biscuits and told them to eat as much as they wanted.

It was found that those who had written about food ate less than the other group.

So thinking about food makes you eat less.

However the scientists were keen to point out that dieters who think about food tend to eat more.

So all that research proves ... exactly what?

Do you ever find yourself checking that it's not April 1st?

Scientists are very clever people. They know things. What they don't know, they're clever enough to invent.
They are also very clever at getting other people to pay them for being clever.
I'm dieting. I think about food all the time!

I'm thinking that they just did not like the food presented when talking about ice cream, you know?

I've finally got access to my daughter's lap top again so I came by to visit and catch up. Oh my...George is a busy, busy boy, isn't he? I've heard Golden Retrievers have minds of their own and after reading about all of George's antics since you got him, I do believe it's true, haha! Lhasa Apso's are quite headstrong, too, but with Little Miss Chloe weighing only 17 pounds compared to George's weight, she's much easier to pull along when she's naughty! Our yard isn't hedged in or fenced in so whenever she goes out she's on a leash. She's only escaped a time or two and all we have to do is say, "Chloe, do you want a bone?!" and in she runs! When I was really fat I used to think about food all the time...first thing when I got up, last thing when I went to bed. I try to keep it in perspective now and eat when I'm hungry. One thing about anethesia, my appetite hasn't come back much. But I can't taste anything anyway, so what does it matter?

Now I don't believe that, I know how much I want to eat after reading a food related Welshcakes post. Just check my comments there ;-)

I'm always thinking of food...maybe I should start writing about it instead. That might be just the ticket to lose the last 10 lbs.

Just wait a little while and a study saying the exact opposite will be published. No wonder we are all clueless.

I must remember that!

Hi all, my take on this says "don't diet". By not depriving yourself, you're not constantly thinking about what you can't have, so you can think in a more measured way about food. Thinking about food in a non-emotional way can help us learn what our bodies are trying to tell us.
