We took Harvey to the vet today. For the last 36 hours he's been alternately pacing the floor and sleeping, and he's not happy.
The vet wasn't very happy either. He didn't seem to think much of our description of the symptoms. But you just know when your dog's not happy.
He was a new vet who hasn't seen Harvey before so he just told us all the things we already knew about his condition; he didn't seem to think there was any extra problem.
When we left the vet I grumbled but Husband said it was he'd been expecting. He only agreed to the trip to placate me.
Well, we'll see how Harvs gets on.

Simi and I are thinking of you and Harvey, Liz. Give him our best love. xx
Don't you hate when you don't get any further answers or information about health problems....whether it's you or your pet? Hugs to Harvey...
I hope Harvey is in better spirits as I write, Liz. I believe animals, like humans, have their "days". I just wish we and them could understand each other's language, better than we do. Give Harvey a hug for me.
Hope you feel better and happier soon, good buddy. Woof.
That vet should trust the pet owner's judgement. After all, it's their pet, right?
Hope Harvey's ok, Liz.
Two suggestions relevant to older dogs.
1) Is Harvey short of breath too? May be a heart problem, get the vet to check heart with a stethoscope. Check too for water in the lungs (BP problem). Ultrasound check.
2) Does Harvey arch his back when he gets up to walk? Maybe constipation. Is he eating normally? Slip a little (more) oil into his food to ease the passage so to say.
Perhaps Harvey needs a dog companion to cheer him up.
Yes, you do know when things aren't right with your dog (or child or self) and it is so frustrating to get a pat on the head and "I'm sure he/she will be fine." Give Harvs a hug and cuddle for me and Bailey.
Thanks for all the good doggie wishes and hugs. Harvey says thank you too. He thinks he is the most loved dog in the universe (I haven't told him that all dogs think that!)
Arched back from internal pain, not-constipated, sleepy, points to kidney problems. Vet should check for renal infections.
