Smartest breeds of dogs

Researching something else I came across a list of the smartest breeds of dogs. It's based on the book The Intelligence of Dogs by Professor Stanley Coren, who assessed dogs by their ability to understand new commands and to obey on the first command.

1. Border collie
2.Poodle
3. German Shepherd
4. Golden retriever
5. Doberman
6. Sheepdog
etc

If I could stop laughing long enough I'd make a comment on number 4.

Of course you have to train dogs to use their intelligence just as you have to train children. Intelligence has to be applied.

Or maybe George played truant when the training classes were being held....

The author is from here - Vancouver - and he's very well known, appearing on TV all the time. But hey, George is smarter than you might think! He's wily an sly! lol

Simi says of course Yorkies and Retrievers are the brightest and she's sure George had an intelligent reason for getting covered in mud!

Obey on the first command?.........

Do you have a recommendation for something to clean my computer screen?

Lol, the report was on their intelligence, not their cooperation. I know Sophie is smart enough to know I'm a pushover; I imagine George knows just how far he can go, too:)

One of our dogs is a cross Border Collie/German Shepherd. She's pretty smart.

Thanks all.

I know George is smart and understands commands. He just prefers not to bother with them. 'Commands are for pet dogs not for me,' he says.

Ruth, great joke! I tried to copy it to post it here but it wouldn't let me. Very true too.
