Saturday Photohunt - Walking

Yay! We did it! We walked to the top of Sulphur Mountain in the Canadian Rockies. To get to the top we weaved and wound our way up, climbing 698m (2,292 ft) to an elevation of 2,281m (7,486 ft); to get down we took the cable car! That's the town of Banff you can see at the bottom. The cable car company was very sneaky. We planned to ride up and walk down but they only sell single tickets at the top. 'It's easier to walk up than it is to walk down,' the ticket seller said.

Two hours later as I reached the top wanting nothing more than an oxygen mask, intravenous tea and a lie-down, the names I was calling the ticket seller don't bear repeating.

Embarrassed to admit Jenny and I went the lazy way and travelled through the Rockies on the Rocky Mountaineer. Breathtaking scenery though. Good for you being a bit more adventurous and energetic.

Haha.. I think it's the government way of getting more people to be fitter. That's a great plan to sell tickets only at the peak.. :P

Wow well done, what a fantastic thing to achieve :-)

I didn't even know you were going there, Did I miss some posts ???

Great shot and what a wonderful view. Quite an accomplishment to reach the top. To tell you the truth, I'd rather climb up than down, depending on the trail. I find it much scarier hiking down a mountain if the trail is rough. However, I don't blame you for being annoyed with the ticket seller. Sounds like a fantastic trip.

Congratulations :-) Lovely view

I'm so jealous you managed it - I would never be able to with my bad back. But wasn't the view worth it?

Great job. I don't think I could do that, may just take the easy way up.

"'It's easier to walk up than it is to walk down,' the ticket seller said."

I have to say that I've definitely encountered situations (and hills/mountains) when that's the case (think dry, crumbly, unpaved paths on steep slows) but that's not often the case -- and from your reaction, I'm thinking that most definitely was not the case with your mountain! ;D

LOL! We bought the round-trip tickets.:-) The ticket seller was right - trying to walk down even a little bit, we were slipping and sliding on the moraine. I had to slide down a bit on my butt!. But that view is such a reward, isn't it?

We took the Rocky Mountaineer to Jasper and drove down the Icefield Parkway to Banff. Your post brought back great memories. :-)

Hope you’ll stop by mine!

I think you did very well, Liz. I know I wouldn't have made it. The view is awesome but I'd be the cable car for me both ways, I'm afraid.

Congratulations on making it to the top! I've always thought mountains were worth conqering. Thanks for stopping by!

The view from the top is stunning! Gorgeous mountains, climbing up there was quiet a feat.

Lovely. I love bounding down hills.

Ah, but think of that view.

Lovely photos. I think i might have made about 100 steps, then given up. I have some knee problems and for me, walking up hill isn't nearly as difficult as walking down hill, even on a very gradual grade. I may be winded, but not in pain going up.

The view from the top looks great! The ticket seller has quite a different perspective. Lol.

That is an amazing view!

Wish there was a cable car to ride on going down the hike I went on. Hehehe. I probably would've had an easier time of it.

I think I would have taken the cable car both ways, I only love to walk with a dog, that's why I have cats !

I wonder how many people just say forget it and don't walk up at all.

It is such a beautiful place, I'l;l never forget the first time I went to the Rockies.

Happy weekend to you Liz.

Congratulations. My husband and I went to the Canadian Rockies a couple of years ago, but we only did easy trails.

It's a gorgeous place, isn't it?

And thanks for visiting my blog.

It is true that walking up is easier balance-wise. But it doesn't help that inability to breath enough air. Going down you could just trip and roll... all the way to the bottom. Mine is up here.

You did so well! What an incredible view from the top.

I've been reading about poor George's cut leg (yes, I've been badly neglecting my visiting!) The thought of what he can do with that collar makes me cringe!
