who needs the road to Damascus?

Did I tell you I had a revelation in Sainsburys this week?

It suddenly struck me that ... (I feel there should be a fanfare) ... you don't have to put glacé cherries and mixed peel in a Christmas cake.

It's irrelevant really as even without peel and cherries I wouldn't eat rich fruit cake but it was still an eye-opening moment. May the sainted Delia forgive me.

So I currently have soaking in brandy a mix of sultanas, dried cherries, cranberries, apricots and a few dates. I have a thing about currants too. Too reminiscent of rabbit poo possibly. Delia said to use 3 tablespoons of brandy but that wasn't enough so I finished the bottle.

For two years, since buying our new super king size bed, I have grumbled because the fitted sheet doesn't fit properly.

It was only when Husband, who happened to be in the room at the time and was helping me, pointed out that I was putting it on the wrong way that I discovered that actually it fits perfectly.

What is really depressing about this story is that no-one will be surprised.

Ha ha , taken you this long to have your revelation (not taking the mickey) ,, I have only made one or two Christmas cakes in my life ,, (I think) ,, I don't like Christmas cake, pudding or mince pies ,, I think my hubby is the only one who likes all three ,,

So funny about the sheet , as you say , are we surprised ,, :-) :-) would not have you any other way , love your snippets of life :-)

Lorne loves traditional fruit cake so much, he buys them by the half dozens...then at the end of the season, he buys out the store (practically). lol I've always wanted a king-size bed, but all the bedding is so much more expensive, so settled for a new queen-size a few months ago.

Thank you, Anne!

I need longer arms for duvet changing, katney.

Mike's the only one in our house who likes rich fruit cake, leslie, but our Italian in-laws will be with us for Christmas so I feel I should do all the traditional things.!

Ask the in laws to bring a Panetonne ,, I love those , and not just at Christmas .

Tunis cake. That is the Christmas cake for me but you can't get ones like I remember when I was a kid. :-(

I'm not keen on panetonne either, Anne.

You'll have to get D-of-F to make you one, furtheron!

I won't even ask how you get on when you're replacing a double duvet cover! Personally, however many times I've done it, I end up wrestling with the thing in a state of increasing irritability until somehow or other the duvet and the duvet cover are finally reconciled.

I adore Christmas cake. The richer the better!

It's a good job you didn't ask, nick, as I have only just come downstairs after fitting one ...
