How do you sneeze?

I sat up in bed and sneezed 7 times rapidly. Husband said, 'Give your nose a good blow.'
'Why?'
'It would clear out whatever is making you sneeze.'

I stared at him. I was confused. 'Why would clearing my nose stop me sneezing?'
'Because your body makes you sneeze to clear your nose.'
'But I sneeze through my mouth.'

Husband shook his head. 'Well, keep your mouth closed.'
'I might implode.'

I've sneezed since and I did try to keep my mouth closed but it was impossible. My sneeze forced its way out. Am I unusual?

And how do you sneeze?

Liz, you ask if you are unusual. And you need to ask! Why else would I visit? :)

How do I sneeze? Very, very loudly.

I sneeze through my mouth but Mike is right that something tickles your nose to make you sneeze. Try blowing to see if it works.

I'll take that as a compliment, calum!

I'm glad I'm not the only mouth-sneezer, leslie and di! I'm not very good at nose-blowing so I'll just have to carry on sneezing I think!

Sneeze is triggered by some irritation in the nose but accomplished with nose and mouth open sometimes, and sometimes with mouth closed. The nose is always involved, though.

And the eyes. It is impossible to sneeze without closing your eyes. Which makes sneezing in traffic particularly problematical.

Oh yes, it's difficult when you sneeze when driving, katney!

But do you still sneeze into the crook of your elbow as in "Don't wory , I'm not going to give you Mexican 'flu ",
Come to that , does anyone any more ?
