Jiggery pokery

Yesterday, after Elder Son, Daughter-in-law and GrandSon1 had left I felt a little despondent. Also, it's difficult, when you've spent the last weeks rushing around maniacally, to stop. The answer was obvious: get out a jigsaw.

I haven't done a jigsaw for ages and I do love them - but they are addictive. A few hours pass like minutes when I'm engrossed. So today, as it had stopped raining, some fresh air was called for.

There were loads of surfers enjoying the post-Christmas swell. (But time enough to diet after all the chocolates have gone.)

Right now it's back to the jigsaw.

Sounds like a relaxing way to spend the post-Christmas days.

I absolutely love jigsaws and you are so right - they are very addictive! Main favs are of steam railway scenes. Glad you have all enjoyed a lovely Christmas.

I've been so sick over the holidays - a nasty cold with neverending cough! So today we're getting some fresh air...will take out the new camera and see what I can see. Enjoy your jigsaw!

So what is your jigsaw strategy?

Mine is :-
Outside first. Then group pieces of the same colour together. Sort by extrusion/intrusions. Then within the colour groups find pieces which fit together.
Then take hints from the picture (if present).

This strategy has a problem with psychedelic pictures though :-(

Wendy, please answer this too, not just Liz.

It is, mauuigirl.

i'm very fussy about my jigsaws, wendy, I like ones with lots of interest, the more cartoony ones, usually.

Hope you're much better soon, leslie.

Gosh, stu, that is far too logical! I start with the edges and then just fit together bits that look like they go together and gradually join it all up.

I've been enjoying the post-Christmas laziness, too; I don't do jigsaws, though--just not patient enough, I guess.

Love your photos of the sea--is it really warm enough there to surf??

That's an idea ! A jigsaw ...
You've started a craze .
P.S. There's a free Online Jigsaw Puzzle site , apparently , which I keep on meaning to investigate , though I have a horrible feeling it might start taking over my life .

Hi Liz & Ole Phat Stu,
Mine are done very similar to you O.P.S. Definitely the outside first, then sort the pieces for the steam engine and do that. Sort the rest of the pieces into sky/trees/rly track etc. Sky is always last! The main hazard is missing pieces as I usually get my puzzles from charity shops.

Oh no, Sub! they're great fun.

Hope you did too, gledwood. Will visit soon.

They have wet-suits, Rose, but we did see one lad going in without boots and could only imagine how numb his feet must have been after a while.

I do the free daily jigsaw (but refuse to pay for more!), sonata, and love it. It's part of my day.

I get mine from charity shops too, Wendy. They're usually complete I find. I hate doing the sky - which is why I don't like scenery jigsaws.
