A gas man who speaks my language

'You see,' he says, 'the pump stops, and the boiler thinks to itself, "My, I'm getting hot. I'd better switch off."'

Much better than all this nonsense about valves and thermocouples and vents.

Just the opposite of us humans.
When our pump stops we get cold :-(

I assume it is fixed. It is sorta like I who have an extensive medical background to my husband who just wants to know what to do about any given subject.

However, I manage to connect with something familiar to him--like my heart. I explained to him the heart is a pump powered by intricate electrical circuitry called nodes.

My boiler man was a real bastard. Despite a large sign saying PLEASE DO NOT ALTER THE SETTINGS he turned up hot water to maximum and turned on the radiators. He obviously didn't reckon for the fact that I'd made a careful diagram of the dials and buttons and set it immediately back to normal on the first rumblings of central heating...
