Zero hour approaching

I am blogging to take my mind off the fact that in just over an hour I'll be doing my book launch.

I am petrified.

Normally I'm fine when I'm reading at someone else's event. But this is different. I'm asking people to come and support me in something that is entirely about me (not the novel, the launch). Years ago a friend told me not to expect anything and then I wouldn't be disappointed. If I don't expect many people to come does that mean I won't be disappointed? Or that I will be?

Either way I'm scared.

The librarian wasn't very hopeful about people turning up either. There are lots of other things happening in the village at the same time including another book launch! (My old tutor from the MA creative writing course is compering that one but it's altogether a different class of literature so our audiences are unlikely to clash.)

Ah well, all the more chocolate for me if no-one comes. (I doubt if anyone will want to eat it anyway as I left it in the car this morning and it melted ...) (It won't stop me, of course.)

And it can't be worse than prison yesterday.

GOOD LUCK! THOUGH YOU WON'T NEED IT :-)

TAKE George with you and let him steal a pat of butter before you set off. Then his diarrhoea will distract from the launch, if it is a disaster (which it won't be) ;-)

Oh, Gledwood, good idea except the butter and diarrhea part. After all, George is a character in the book--thinly disguised. He could read the dogsitting part--wait, that wouldn't work. George is, unfortunately, illiterate.

By the time I saw this it is already over. How did it go?

Yes, how did it go? I would have been there had I been able, but I wasn't so I wasn't. I'll get your book in August when I'm there!

It went really well, thanks! About 23 people and lots of sales. The librarian was very pleased. And so was I!

Well done Liz! We both enjoyed the book launch very much. And your book is great too. Best of luck.

waiting to hear of the huge success that was the launch...

Liz whatever - you have written a successful novel - trust me I watch my wife giggling like a child at several bits of it and recommending / lending it on to at least two friends.

I'm thinking of a launch for my new album but afraid it'll be Mrs F, the kids, my brother and his long suffering family and maybe one or two others... and I'll be stood there thinking why have I bothered

Just read the comments! 23 people! 23! That is officially a crowd - you'd needed to ask police permission if it had been on the street outside.

Well done - I knew it'd be a success

Thank you, Ann, and thank you for making the effort to come along. I appreciated it very much.

Thanks, furtheron. It's always encouraging to hear it's making people laugh. You need to be brave about your launch. You've got supporters.
