Is it just me?

Or are others experiencing lower visitor numbers of late?

It's probably me being boring about my novel and, also, just not posting as much as usual. My life is incredibly busy but - I was going to say not very exciting but that's not true. Well, perhaps not exciting but full of interest and fun. Maybe I just don't have the enthusiasm for blogging at the moment. I can't seem to think of entertaining posts.

I could tell you about George falling down - but I didn't see it, just heard the thud and saw him limping pathetically towards us in the woods. (He's fine now.)
Or about Husband burning the driftwood I'd collected and left in the greenhouse to dry out.
You see, not very gripping.

During the Sunday service I even made notes with a thought in my head that I'd blog my ideas on the subject (church actually - no, I mean it, that's the title of the series, church actually) but ...

Pull yourself together, woman! Go and shower and ...

I asked Cherie, our teacher, to announce my book launch in slimming class this morning. About 4 people said they'd come - if only they weren't away on Monday. But Cherie has said that I can take copies in to sell so they won't get away with it that easily.

No wonder I don't have many readers if this is the best I can do.

My blog comes and goes... at one point I really did begin to think I was talking to myself... nothing new there! It has picked up a bit recently, but I've been more visiting others and commenting on their blogs, that seems to bring people over to me

Yes, I try to visit my favourites but I'm not much good at going out and finding new ones. Or finding time for that!

Perhaps you could slip a note with your blog and Facebook Page address (the one for your book) into each of the books you sell at your upcoming events? That would spread the word of your book and blog simultaneously :)

My own visitor numbers are well down. I think it's a case of a lot of bloggers giving up. Perhaps a reduction in page rank also leads to fewer visitors too

Good idea, anonymous!

At least it's not yet me then, jams!

I value the quality of my visitors rather than the quantity.

But there also is a factor that I always advise new bloggers about. When you visit others, they visit you. And some of them post one post and think that the world should come bounding to their door.

When we get busy and don't post as often and don't visit, the visitors drop off. But I see all the loyal ones commenting here regularly --Furtheron, and Jams, Cherrypie, Stu...

Do I have that robot thing, stu? I'll check it out. Although I've recently had some stock trader commenting about bonds ...

Definitely, katney, and my faithful regulars are just that. I was curious rather than complaining. In fact, my numbers suddenly jumped about 6 months ago and have stayed steady up there but just as suddenly nose-dived last week. as the King of Siam may have said, 'It is a puzzlement.'

Not just you - I think it's seasonal.
You had me worried about George there for a minute!

I never have many comments, but I don't maintain a long reading list, although it seems so when I see blogs with 150 or so followers.

I find myself short of time, mainly my heart slows me down. What used to take 30 minute seems to take an hour.

Some of my stories are mundane and I know it. However, I am sure you will agree writing whatever, is often therapeutic.

There is a movement to boycott blogs that use CAPTCHA, or commonly called word verification, which I immediately removed from mine.

Liz Hinds said...

I think I've removed the word verification now. If it's still there, please let me know.

It could also be the massive number of people who tweet and use social pages now. It is an effort to do a post, which is why I still do ABC Wednesday to keep my creative juices flowing. But I agree, numbers are down for whatever reason.

Always love reading your news Liz.

I wish I was more inspired on my blog . Tall Girl now has almost as many followers as me!

Do you think it's the new robot moderation thing (not sure if you have it though) putting people off? I got rid of mine after you mentioned it.

Do you get loads of hits from people looking for something quite different to what you're blogging about, or ones from people you don't know who happen to have googled keywords you happen to have used in some post or other three years ago?.. I do. I wrote a post about beautiful lovebirds and that one post gets more hits than every other one in my new blog. It's amazing. My numbers actually seem to have gone up... I did notice years ago that they seem to go down on weekends, and would probably go down on extended bank holidays too, I mean, especially if most of your readers come from Britain... The VAST majority of my hits have always come from people I don't know!...

I was just reading your other comments... blogger losing hits to twitter? what is twitter even about? i really do not understand it... how can anyone post anything in 160 characters or whatever it is? that's a sheer travesty of blogging... and also how can anyone describe a facebook page as a blog when it patently isn't one?... never understood that one... don't understand anything but blogger to be honest with ya...

Just FYI : my hits vary with the day of the week, peaking tues/wed around 350 and bottoming fri/sat around 220 daily unique hits. It's stabilised since they stopped counting the spambots :-)

Yes it appears to be gone. I have another suggestion, too, if you have not already done it. Post a lot on Facebook. I don't do social networking, except blog. I have a face book account but usually just announce a new blog, as half my friends on it are bloggers.

There may even be a circle for writers, etc. Also GOOGLE+ is a new social networking book.

I bought your book but am currently in a long saga of John Michenor (The Source) which may take me a long time to read, then I will move to yours. I am not a fast reader, but thorough.

Many readers in US concentrate of certain concepts or writers. For instance, Carol ofthe Writer's Porch buys primarily US southern state writers. She meets them personally and socially.

I just read. My previous reading since getting the Kindle have been varried (Religious:Lucado, Eusebius) Novels: the Shack, The Help, and several others. I also want to read the IRON LADY, as I admired Margaret Thatcher and know it must have been hard to watch a brilliant political mind descend into dementia.

I commend you for promoting your book. It takes more than printing to sell.!

You might make a note you have removed CAPTCHA from your site. I notice most of my bloglist is simply written less, including me. Just when I think I will remove them they pop up with a post. Ah! Dilemma

Well, that's the way to get more comments, just mention that you're not getting enough! I don't think there's any magic formula, I just try to write stuff I think my blogmates will be interested in. It's all trial and error most of the time.

My visitors are low at the moment too. Maybe it is the time of year?

I don't worry about it too much, I know my friends visit and that is enough for me :-)

Well, I'm still here Liz, always have to check on George and husband! (Poor George falling over in the woods doing important dog 'stuff'!).

Not blogger Cherie?

Liz Hinds said...

Thanks all. it seems to be a general drop then. As you say, nic, the way to get comments is to say you're not getting any!

James, no, not blogger Cherie.
