Lenten discipline

So it's the first day of Lent today. Last year I blogged each day about something for which I was thankful; this year I'm resolving to write some of my novel every day. Even if it's only 10 words.

There's nothing religious or even Christian about my decision; it's just that the Lenten discipline seems to work for me. I seem to be able to stick to things better than if I set my own targets at random. I have no idea why it should be so but it's worked successfully in previous years so I'm going for it.

It's 9.30 pm now and I've only just done some novel writing but I managed about 600 words so that's cool.

We'll see how it goes ...

P.S. Maryb has a great post about Lent again this year. She's a fab writer and well worth visiting.

No lentils for lent. That would be a good one. Or just lentils. Are you meant to punish yourself for lent? Or just deprive yourself? I never grew up with traditional religion so I know far more about prana than about lent I'm afraid..!

I think this is a great way to honor Lent. I've probably told you this before, but I have a friend who used to give up lima beans every year for Lent. Somehow that seems to miss the whole point.

I am on my second day of no Pepsi. I think writing a novel would be easier. Lima beans I give up 365 days a year.

My religious preference does not practice Lent, but the idea seems like a good way to lose some weight if you stuckt to it.

However I respect those who practice Lent and certainly do not try to interfere with their personal decision. My best friend practices Lent.

I think the idea s to help you focus on what Christ did for us, gledwood. but it doesn't work that way for me.

On that basis, rose, i could give up bungee-jumping.

I remember your fondness for pepsi, katney. Good luck!

It's very much a matter of personal choice, nitwit.
