How can you lose a griddle?

It was my granny's griddle and it was a heavy lump of metal. I last saw it before we had the kitchen refitted. I was sure I'd moved it to a safe place but if I have it's so safe I can't find it. We can only assume that, somehow, it got thrown out by the workmen.

So I finally gave up this morning and went and bought a new one. It's only about a quarter of the thickness of the original and takes a bit of adjusting to. (Hence the burnt welshcakes.)

But you've got to have welshcakes on St. David's Day. And may I wish a happy day to all Welsh men and women everywhere.

I have two griddles. One was my Mum's and one was my Gran's. I have stringently resisted every attempt to get rid of them. They were made by (I think) my Gran's brother. I found one of them being used under the jack in the garage once! Nothing works as well as a good thick iron planc.

Oh, so sorry about your Granny's griddle. Such treasures are to be appreciated and hopefully you will eventually discover that safe place. I have a lot of things put in safe places. How can there be that many safe places in one house?

The cook at the first school I taught at made Welshcakes for breakfast every couple of weeks. I am too late to make them for today, but hmm.....
