My 2,999th post

On Monday I found myself walking both George and Holly. Now on the george scale of good behaviour, George is reasonably well-behaved when walking on the lead; Holly isn't. Even though she is very good normally and can do all sorts of tricks, put her on the lead and she immediately pulls like mad. So it was with some trepidation that I set off, one dog lead in each hand.

I had just about got them not under control but manageable when we had to walk past the house of George's arch-enemy. He spotted us and began throwing himself against the window and barking and growling like the hound of the Baskervilles.

At this, George who had been happily sniffing an old bottle decided that maybe Holly had the right idea after all and set off at a pace that Usain Bolt would have been proud of.

I was at the other end of the road before I'd regained what little control I'd had. Panting and puffing and yelling, 'You stupid dogs!! Stop will you!!!'

No wonder the neighbours all avoid me ...

P.S. Did you notice my post title? Now I am dithering what to post for my 3,000th. I feel it should be of significance and meaningful as so many of my posts - like this one - are. Shall I look back over my past writings? Or look to the future? Or just post a photo of Grand-daughter?! This could take me some time.

Wow! Will I still have something to say in 2000+ posts? Fortunately the world does keep throwing more material at us. I remember that Nora Ephron's mother reminded Nora when she was having marital problems, or some kind of problems, that it was all material. Another mother heard from - but she was a writer too.

Perhaps is you stopped shouting "mush! mush!" the dogs may be better on their leads?

Wow, Liz, I haven't even reached 200 posts yet! I think you surely deserve some kind of award for writing this many!

Have you ever seen "The Dog Whisperer" on the National Geographic Channel? I watch it whenever I have time, though none of Cesar's methods seem to work with Sophie. But I thought of his show when I saw your illustration--you need to wear rollerskates when walking these two:)

Hahaha! I shouldn't laugh, because I'd be sunk if I had a dog who pulled. I know how awful it can be.

Jim did, when we first got him. We stopped him by turning around and going in the opposite direction as soon as he started pulling. Took him less than three days to learn, but you have to be consistent, and for most dogs, on the first walk you try this, you won't leave the driveway. Fifteen minutes, and go back inside, and try again later. It works - honestly! ;)

I could never walk two dogs at once, at least not if they were like Diva!

Congrats on 2999! I'm highly impressed!

I doubt I'll ever live to see 2000+ posts! But congrats on the accomplishment.

I hardly manage one dog on a leash, much less two. Luckie is pretty tame until she encounters something live that runs along the ground, like chipmunks

I notice Rose mentioned The Dog Whisperer...I watch him every day that I can at 2pm on the National Geographic channel. All new shows right now. I'm hoping it will train me for when we get our own dog. I wasn't very successful with the last one.

Had a thought. You have two dogs dragging you in the same direction? Be thankful and pity me when I had Meg (my labrador) and Raki (as a pup)

We went out of my house VERY FAST and I hurtled out behind them as I had their leads on my right and left wrists so I always ended up being dragged behind. Bugger me, but everytime we got to the main road the dogs would look at each other and wink and then run off at warp factor nine speed in totally different directions.

I finally understood what it must have been like to have been drawn and quartered. If I had been wearing a scarf I probably would have been hung too.

Thanks for visiting, commonweeder.

Thanks, anne.

Do you think that would work, DD?

Yes, rose, I have watched Cesar a few times. He has an undeniably magic touch.

I know it's my fault, jay, for not persevering in the beginning.

Thanks, mauigirl.

Oh yes, nitwit, show george a cat and I'm in trouble!

You big fat fibber, mutley!

I know what i'm supposed to do with dog training, leslie, it's just the doing it that gets me!

Ha ha ha, DD!
