More about 'the peculiar little bump'

I refuse to call it 'bunion'. I am not that old.

Anyway, what I was going to say is that I've never worn narrow or pointy shoes. I have an extra toe on the foot with 'the peculiar little bump' so my foot is already misshapen and has never fitted into anything narrower than a broad fitting. I suspect it is the extra toe that is the problem though as 'the peculiar little bump' is almost directly opposite it.

In one of John Wyndham's books (The Chrysalids, I think), people like me, with abnormalities, are sent to live in the outlands, so I suppose I should be grateful.

Phew, I saw the title and thought you were talking about my peculiar little bump. But it sounds like yours is equally harmless.

Even Posh Spice has bunions.

In fact, I'm told her feet are full of them ..! So console yourself with that..!

wouldn't the majority of us be in the outlands by that criteria?

Compared to where I live Liz, you do live in the outlands!
You lucky lady, I just adore The Gower Penninsular.

I love Pembrokeshire too.

We've had some wonderful holidays there, particularly when the 'girls' were little.
Golden days!

I've had treatment for mine but they're still there...
So, I just wear wider fitting shoes.

An extra toe? Does that mean you'd be a natural on Strictly Come Dancing?

Have you ever had any problems from having an extra toe? Or considered having it removed? I have a bunion on one foot and I'm sure it's the result of wearing those narrow, pointy-toed things from the 60's.

How about inflammation of the interphalangeal joint instead of a bunion? Is it painful? Ibuprofen helps.

Oh I hope you are not exiled tgo the outlands. What would George do....and grand child. No that simply is not an option.

An extra toe? I bet that helps your stability when out on a pub crawl. Just take pride in the fact that where we adults can only count to 20 using our fingers and toes, you can count to 21 - I am very impressed with you - very impressed.

It sounds like it's the extra toe that's the problem.

Yep, could be the extra toe. Liz.

My younger brother who's not quite 50 is going in for surgery in a week to have some hammer toes on one of his feet taken care of. Our mom suffered from those and 'corns' as well. Doesn't seem like we hear much of those, either. I guess I'd be your neighbor there in the 'outlands'...when I was born, both my baby toes curled up and over the toes next to them. Thanks to many hours of my mother massaging them 'straight', they're still a little sideways but at least are where they're supposed to be on my feet, ha!

Yours is hardly little, Anna!

I looked it up, sally, and it says 30% of women have them.

Hey, gleds, she may have glamour and wealth and fame - but she has bunions?!

There was actually a woman with six toes in the book, furtheron.

I love where I live too, trubes.

More foot to fall over, nick.

No, no problems, leslie, apart from ugly feet!

I like that, jmb. No, it's not painful.

I shall fight any move to oust me, nitwit!

Thank you, dd. I need all the help I can get.

Yep, welshcakes and puss, i think so.

That was patient of your mother, kris!

He's a good writer, dragonstar.

According to the research it's mostly women who have bunions, jams.

Ha ha, james!
