From the first set of ten paperbacks, which included A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway, published by Penguin in 1935, its fiction could be easily identified by its orange spine and bird logo. These days just the penguin remains.

I'm glad to say that our bookshelves still have a lot of orange on them! Great take on the theme Liz
I had a lot of orange spines like that. All lost now in my world travels. Clever and orangeinal take on the theme.
What a cool collection. I love books. Great take on the theme!
I like the way you used orange fonts as well as the photo with the stack of orange spine books. Great idea for the theme.
Great take on the theme - I have plenty of books with the familiar orange spine.
Wow, you've got original editions from Penguin Books! Take care of those, they could be worth something :)
PS, I'm back on the hunt! http://bonggamom.blogspot.com/2009/09/photohunt-orange.html
Ahh that brings back memories :-)
Orange turned out to be harder to find than I thougt... Love your idea...
Miss those orange spines and get the feeling you do too, Liz!

Yes! I have a couple of these orange-spine penguin books too!
what a great collection of books and perfect for the theme.
Those orange Penguins were very distinctive. So were the green Virago titles with the apple logo. I also liked the old Women's Press titles with the iron and the slogan "Steaming ahead".
Back to the old days of orange.
Ah! You're a book lover! Neat collection in orange.
Oh yes, I remember those orange spines. Great choice! Happy weekend to ya!
What an interesting post - I didn't know about the orange spines on the Penguin books! Great take on the orange theme!
I love the unique subject you choose for this week's theme. I remember some of the Penguins from the '70s but never bought too many.
Yes, you're right...my Penguins are cream spined. I remember the orange ones...sigh...nostalgia is rife nowadays.
Why have you got "The trouble with Lichen" twice?
Great idea for the theme. I've got a lot of those too - proper paperbacks.
