Saturday Photohunt - Stripes

My mum was a flight sergeant in the WAAF during the war. This is her jacket with its shoulder stripes. It's one of the few things of hers that I still have.

What an interesting picture. It is so good that you still have this jacket, I'm sure she would be very proud to know that you have looked after it so well.

Wow re your mom having done her armed forces bit during the war. Speaking of air force: just watched an amazing American silent movie made in 1927 called "Wings" about first world war aviators last night. Highly recommended if you ever get the chance to watch it -- and with live musical accompaniment to boot like I did! :)

I thought I would use my ATC 215 Swansea Sqdn pic - but thought not.
A good choice.
I don't have any bits of kit left though I used my great coat over the car engine for years, on winter nights.

What a great tribute to your mother, Liz.

I wonder if you had the chance to document all your Mum's WAAF experiences?

Love the stripes you found. Great photo. And, thanks for the visit. You asked what a 7-11 store is in America, it's a convenience store that was around the country all over America at one time. The store was open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. You could buy gasoline [petrol] and snacks, milk, soda, candy, bread, things like that.

A reminder that women did more during the war than just keep the home fires burning... My Mom was drafted into nursing in Scotland.

My ex's grandmother served in France as a nurse during WWI. The first Native (Canadian Indian) women in Canada to be trained as a nurse - though she was trained in the US because no nursing school would train "an Indian".

We owe a debt of gratitude to women like your mother.

I am reading a series set in Wales at the moment, by Rhys Bowen. I am really enjoying the books. :)

A wonderful idea for the week's topic.

Thanks for visiting, and have a great week.

And by the way, that cat is not very snooty, he is just very old (17) and quite sick...

In a way I wish I'd thought of this. there'd have to be plenty of such memorabilia lying around just waiting for such a shot. But it didn't even cross my mind.

Nicely done!
