What's for dinner, mum?

When Younger Son comes downstairs soon and asks me, as he inevitably will, 'What's for dinner?' I'll be able to reply confidently, 'An adventure!' Which won't be the answer he'll be expecting.

I've donned my thickest parka and delved deep into the farthest recesses of the freezer and pulled out a package, that, even as I write, is being defrosted. That's what we're having for dinner. Or one of us is depending on what it is and how much there is.

I really should label these little packages but there aren't actually that many of them. This was the only one that appeared to be already cooked although there were a few mystery meat bundles. Left-overs aren't for long in this house and I'm not organised enough to cook in bulk.

It'll be exciting. I'll tell him that. He'll be convinced I know he will.

That is a dreaded question at our house too....I found a great recipe online today that I made for lunch. I think we are going to have it for dinner too. I don't feel like cooking again!

I don't have a freezer. I look in the fridge/cupboard and throw something together it always works.. the element of surprise :0)

Your post made me chuckle. We cook like that at least once a week. Nothing in the fridge so we invent some sort of concoction. Mostly, its tastes ok.

Frozen packages reminds me of when (many many moons ago) my first husband and I flew to Bermuda (new job) with only £5.00 in our pockets. Whilst first husband started job I was left all alone and walked to the nearest supermarket called Piggly Wiggly. Every piece of meat was frozen out of all recognition - I thought I bought a chicken - it turned out to be a very very tough lump of so-called beef - I burst into tears.

As I am alone I always make easy meals and often I cook for two days or even more and I store it in the deepfreeze.

I hate the question, life with K. Sounds a good idea having it twice!

Oh good, suburbia!

I want my next fridge freezer to be mostly fridge, hippy mama. I don't use the freezer much.

Chilli, berthddu suit. And Younger Son was convinced it had gone off.

My invented concoctions never taste good, eternal worrier.

Oh, poor you, lindsay!

Being alone is easy for food, reader wil; it's keeping YS fed and full that is difficult!
