mouth and foot

ABC Wednesday is just below!

I write a lot but I don't say much. I mean, when I'm out, I don't talk a lot. And, quite often when I do, I really shouldn't. Take last night for example. (Please!)

Zac's started back after a short summer break. Steve was there. I've known him and his wife for years, and, yesterday I said, 'I dreamed about you last night. You were helping me get my washing in.' Okay that was fine, but that was where I should have stopped.

Then what I wanted to say was, 'It's a sad comment on our summer weather that I fantasise about being able to hang washing out to dry'; what I actually said was something like, 'It's sad that my fantasies involve a washing line.'

Steve muttered something about it being our age as he quietly sidled further away from me. It wasn't until later that I wondered, 'Did he think I ...?'

Oh, I feel a hot flush coming on.

Oh Liz! It was worth it not being able to sleep and coming online to check out a few blogs. You are TOO funny and say things that I would say, too. When we meet, be sure to remind me to tell you about the day Garry helped me move into my condo. We still laugh to this day about it.

Liz, I love it when you own up to doing or saying things like this. I could be me! (Only I'm too chicken to tell the world about it).

Funnily enough, my fantasy yesterday was a washing machine and clothes line.

I would have taken your washing in, as a brave soul !

Au contraire, Madame Liz, your only mistake was to imply that your fantasies are sad. The fact that you can transform the humble washing line into an exciting element in your rich dreamscape is a celebration of the fertility of the human imagination.

That or "my dreams" might have been a less alarming phrase than "my fantasies".

Still, unconsciously, what do you think you might have been wanting to say to Zac?

May I 'fess up too...? One of my life's greatest pleasures is hanging washing out to dry - and then bringing it in all fresh and sweetsmelling. Makes ironing amost a guilty pleasure as you watch the fabrics unravel and look smart again.

I think you said exactly the right thing!

Not talk a lot? You will pardon me if I find that a little hard to believe based on your blog persona. Isn't it funny how it sounds perfectly fine from your end of the conversation but then they can't read your mind you know to fill in the blanks.

So funny, Liz; and can I ever relate to this! I've spent a lot of my life taking my foot out of my mouth, too:)

Years ago, when seeing an old friend and his wife back to their car after a visit, instead of saying 'don't make it so long next time' meaning a shorter break between visits, what I came out with was 'don't come back too soon...'!
Oh dear.
Your remark was quite innocuous.

Thinking of dreams, I dream quite a lot and on waking know that I have been doing so but almost immediately forget what they were about. Last night I vividly dreamed that Mrs DeeJay and I were visiting and caring for a young boy in hospital. I can visualise even now the hospital room, the caresses and the low spoken words of comfort.

What was THAT all about?
