So long and thanks for all the ... love

We gathered yesterday to drink a champagne toast to Harvey, in gratitude for the love and happiness he brought into our lives for the nearly 15 years he was part of our family. Of course he'll always be part of our family but you know what I mean.

We recalled his penchant for knickers, his tendency to walk into doors, and the elbow nudging when he thought you should be tickling his head instead of typing/eating/drinking/doing anything else.

We're laughing a lot in the photo because a) they're happy memories; and b) the camera was set on auto and balanced precariously on top of the champagne bottle on top of Harvey's casket. We like to think he would have approved.

Then Husband buried the casket just next to the ramp we built specially for Harvey, and we all laid stones on it.

P.S. The title of the post is from a Douglas Adams book called So long and thanks for all the fish.

That is so lovely and I am sure you all had such fun remembering the years of Harvey. I particularly like the touch of putting his memorial next to the ramp. Happy memories.

What a lovely spot you've chosen for Harvey and what a great send off. You'll never forget him. Our pets are just so precious to us.

I hope I have a send-off as good as that.

That's a lovely photo and I like the idea of the camera balanced on the champagne bottle...it was fitting...somehow.

Glad you said goodbye to Harvey and I'm sure he watched from doggie heaven and wished he liked champers.

I'm glad you had such a nice ceremony for Harvey, and that you are at the stage of remembrance where you can laugh and smile as you think of the happy memories he gave you.

Douglas Adams - loved his books. It was sad he died so young.

And I'm sure Harvey was sitting in his little spot in whatever world all the wonderful pets of ours go to...I can't imagine they don't go SOMEWHERE special...just smiling a big doggy grin and enjoying every minute of your tribute. Well done! (((((HUGS)))))

No wonder Harvey was such a special dog. He obviously came from a very special family. Harvey was a lucky boy, and I'm sure that he now rests in peace.

As I get older, I have even fonder memories of the pets - all cats - in my life. I am going to create a scrapbook in their honour. Your family have done Harvey proud!

Hope you got the text earlier because the teddy bear is very happy in his new home, Liz.

Ahhh, lovely tribute, Liz. Harvs would be so pleased (as long as you tossed a couple of knickers his way). Great "toasting" photo, as well.

So long, and thanks for good ol' Harvey.

Thank you all.

How wonderful the internet is that so many people can take such a concerned and loving interest in a dopey dog and his family!
