The hair of the cat

I am taking a short break from curing hangovers to place an order for a case of wine with Virgin (the third thing on my post-it if you look carefully).

Did you know that pulling your hair helps ease a headache? Or that a honey and banana milkshake is a good remedy for an overwrought stomach - if it doesn't make you sick first? The Irish suggest, allegedly, being buried up to your neck in sand - although it doesn't specify which way up. The trouble is, with me being a non-drinker, I'm not very sympathetic. I would tell people the best cure is to stop drinking to excess.

Or to drink pale expensive alcohol. It contains fewer toxins and you can't afford to drink so much.

(By the way, the Virgin wine service is very good. We also tried Laithwaites but Husband didn't like their wines so much.)

The greatest old cure-all for breaking up chest congestion from a bad cold is one passed down from my French-Canadian half-breed Great Grandma called an "onion pack." You take an old piece of flannel, slather it with lard, and slice a fresh onion all over. Fold it up. Pin it to your undershirt or pajama top, and stink to high heaven, haha! But it WORKS!!! I used to suffer from bronchitis every winter as a kid and my mom would put them on me. I even "stunk up" my kids and Dear Hubby a few times thru the years with them, too. I heard another old remedy for pneumonia and bronchitis was to put someone in a bathtub, cook up a bunch of onions, and then bury them up to their chins with the onions! Luckily, I've never gone to such drastic measures myself, haha! It's amazing how some of these old remedies work, tho, isn't it?

Now isn't personal taste a wonderful thing? I have tried both Virgin and Laithwaites and although Virgin just have it on customer service, I much prefer the Laithwaites selection and price.
That reminds me it's time to order some more hic!

Thank you for the comment on my "Grandma" entry. I just wanted to clarify for you that "Bridget" is my one and only daughter...that's her writing name that she uses for the internet and any published work she might have some day. My mom's nickname was Bridget and one of my hubby's grandmothers was also a Bridget! How strange is that, considering Bridget...at least here in the US...isn't a very common name!
