My Precious

I have a useful tin. Except I can't think of a use for it. It's the sort of tin little boys used to keep things in. Secret and special things like woodlice and nails and glass bottle stoppers and spare tyres for toy cars. I don't know if today's little boys still use tins. Or whether they're too busy on the Playstation to know what pleasure special things can bring.

I should throw it away; it's no use to me. But I'd feel bad about that.

Yep, I collect tins, boxes, receptacles of all kinds.

Put some earrings in it.

AND ..... I have still got one from my childhood!
I have got some old school magazines, Boy Scout badges, my first driving licence and many other useless but tremendously nostalgic things in it.

I have one - full of fuses, plectrums, small screw drivers etc. Mostly stuff I can't live without for my guitars...

Look at Freecycle - I've not used it but saw a piece on the news about it - you advertise stuff like on eBay only for free and you register in your local area. I thought it good and think I'll use it next time I have something I no longer need.

I keep containers, too, thinking one day they will be useful. Would it make a giftbox for something? Remember the "memory tin" in the film "Amélie"?

Selling it on ebay? Now that's an interesting thought.

I already have too many little boxes - either full or empty and waiting for something.

But it's such a nice little tin!

Oh, I do SO hear you on THIS one! My little grandson has two blue plastic tubes with bright yellow lids that "crisps", as I think you call them, came in. I dunno why I saved them to give to him to play with, but they're his two favorite play things. All day long, he goes back to them again and again, filling them with all kinds of little plastic people or Lego blocks or anything that will fit in to them...shakes them 'til the rafters quake...then takes everything out and starts in all over again. Years from now, someone could use them for storing nails or buttons or something...but I'm going to tuck them away in a drawer and keep them for ME forever. I will never be able to look at them without thinking of the hours of pleasure they brought this darling little boy. That is, if he ever tires of playing with them, ha! ;-)
