To be added to the list

... of places we can't take Harvey any more: anywhere that is excessively muddy. And in Swansea in January that means most places.

I thought we'd go to the river today. Crossing the field leading to the path down to the river, Harvey slipped and couldn't get up again without help. The river path no longer seemed a sensible option.

We walked back over the tip instead.
The tip, the valley and its hillsides were once our most regular walk place. Until about 22 years ago the tip was still being used to accommodate Swansea's rubbish; now nature has reclaimed its own. As well as wild roses, foxes, tadpoles and woodpeckers, we've even seen a heron there.

Here Harvs is just admiring the scenery.

The good news is that the baking website owners liked my article and are commissioning me to do more. This very morning I have described how to make the Perfect Carrot Cake (don't tell me, I know it's not as good as yours!) and this afternoon I'm going to be looking at Classic Cakes (whatever they may be). Writing and getting paid for it: heaven!

Not a lot but hey!

Wow!! Congratulations, Liz. Not being a baker, I'd love to know how to make ANY kind of cake. I made one once. That tells you all you need to know.

Great going! Keep us posted.

Harvey seems to spend a lot of time sitting down, or is this just his portrait pose? If I am that photogenic at 97, I will be thankful. On the foxes/heron note, we saw a deer today! A proper one, with antlers! (As opposed to a fake one with floppy ears.) It looked at me across the field (only about 10m away) for a second, then bounded off to shelter beneath trees. It was ever so pretty, fawn-coloured and sunlit.

Ah can you make a carrot cake that doesn't taste, smell, or look like carrot cake, and be like a ginger cake instead? Because if you could that would be perfect!

Ahhhh....give Harvey a big hug for me, Liz. Friends of mine had a dog just like him a few years ago..."Bundy" was his name and I used to spoil him rotten. He was a marvellous dog....he and I were great mates!

There is a way, Shirley...there is a way...but I don't think carrot cakes smell of carrots!

I have a really good carrot and pineapple cake recipe, Liz...if you want it, let me know. I used to make it and sell it in a shop I had once and I used to make it for other stores as well. And it freezes exceedingly well.

Thanks, Elsie and Welshcakes. It makes such a difference having something specific to work on; I am reinvigorated!

Carrot cake doesn't taste, smell or look like carrots, Shirley! It does look like carrot cake but couldn't you close your eyes?

Good to see you, Lee. Harvey says Hi too.
