Some fresh air

Husband returns to work tomorrow so we made the most of today by taking Harvey to another one of his old haunts. This is one that's a ten-minute drive away and as I can't get him in the car any more we depend on Husband being around to get us there and back.

Mumbles Hill, a designated Local Nature Reserve, is at the southwest corner of Swansea Bay and the southeast corner of Gower. The hill would run down straight to the beach and the lighthouse if a road hadn't been built around the edge of it some time before I was born. If you have good eyesight you may be able to see on the map, just below where it says Mumbles, two little dots off the headland: the lighthouse is situated on the outer one.

There was a cool breeze blowing in from the sea and the sun was low in the sky. You can see, from this photo, the effect of the prevailing wind on this side of the hill.

As I had the camera with me, I got a bit snap-happy!

As a little girl - and teenager - I spent a lot of time on Mumbles Pier. My grandfather, after he retired, worked in the ticket booth there and I would walk down to visit him. An uncle also worked on the skittles. (That's the only word that comes to mind but it wasn't skittles as played in a bar. The balls had to be rolled up a ramp and into one of the rings to score, the central ring having the highest value).

A beautiful day for you three. All the photos are great, but the one of Harvey is especially nice. What a handsome boy he is! Happy New Year, Liz. And from Hershey to Harvey too.

Liz, you make me feel homesick! Lovely pic of Harvs there, too - but they are all lovely pics.

I love the pictures. How old is Harvey? There are times when I think how nice of a life for a dog. Loving people to watch after him, feed him, etc. But a dogs life is too short. We should be able to keep our companion with us our entire life.

Mumbles is famous for the Mumbles Mile, a series of pubs along the seafront. people come form miles around to do the mile and buy the t-shirt.
